Twelve intrepid walkers met at Bewong for the short drive to a carpark below Wandean Gap. Karen Davis led us up the steep firetrail to a junction, where we turned onto the Yellowwood Fire Trail. After the obligatory morning tea, we bush-bashed our way through dense vegetation up to a rock jumble below the cliff-line.
Brilliant navigation and track finding by Karen and Brett (her assistant) soon had us scrambling to the top of the escarpment, probably via a route never before used. After some harsh banksia and hakea bashing, we stumbled upon the power lines and attendant track south of the Braidwood Road. We lunched overlooking Gnatilia Creek, then the track was followed back to the Wandean Road where a short walk soon had us turning off for the Jerrawangala lookout.
Everyone admired not only the views, but the dumped car at the foot of the escarpment as well. We then followed the cliffline for a four hundred metre shortcut back to the Wandean Road - saving us a couple of kilometres of backtracking and fire-trail walking. We soon arrived back at the cars, surprisingly with the same number of people as when we started out.
