It seems that when writing a history, no matter how narrow the subject or how brief a period it covers, one must include facts and statistics. In compiling this "Short History of the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers" I found it easy to collect this basic profile of the Club from membership lists, minutes of meetings and business correspondence (all since incorporation in 1988), and from earlier walks programs, trip notes and reports from 1986.

This alone would make for very dull reading so we have included items from "The Ettremist" and its predecessor "The New Bush Telegraph", many anecdotes - as recalled by Club members - of great trips and special friends who walked with them, and also the recollections of past bushwalkers in the Shoalhaven.

This last was the most difficult part, as most former walkers (if they can be found) seem to suffer from fast fading memories, or is it they are just shy or reticent? So here is our "short history", from 1975 to 2000. I cannot thank everyone individually who has contributed in so many ways to this publication - but to Russ and Dawn Evans, who first came up with the idea of having an ongoing record of the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers, to Brett and Karen Davis, who with their IT made it happen, and finally to those members, past and present, who have shared their stories - my sincere thanks.

But this is by no means "The End". There must be many more stories, additional historical information and contacts from the past to be followed up.

As this is everyone's story I would really welcome further contributions and comments from you all. Also do bring to my attention any errors and omissions in the text so they can be corrected.
