Community Activities

Shoalhaven Bushwalkers are involved in a number of community activities such as participating in fundraisers like 'Walk Against Want' for Community Aid Abroad and sponsoring 'Noah's Ark Centre' walkathons. A group of members work at nominated venues on the annual 'Clean Up Australia Day' each March. Maintenance of walking tracks in the Shoalhaven has been an ongoing task of the Club. We have working bees to clear tracks by weeding and pruning, collecting litter and repair and realign signs when needed.

The Club is represented on the Shoalhaven City Council Walking Trail Sub-committee by Russ Evans. Other members of the committee are Council officers, Councillors and representatives from Department of Land and Water Conservation, N.P.W.S., Booderee N.P., State Forests, local MPs and other community groups.

The aim of this group is - to make recommendations to Council on a wide range of matters pertaining to planning, developing and maintaining walking track in the Shoalhaven. - to improve the accessibility and safety of existing tracks and widen the range of recreational opportunities available to residents and visitors - to prepare and update a data base and digital maps using new technology ie. Arc View software.

As a major user of walk trails in the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers has been requested to make a commitment to this work by participating in a walk's audit and in track maintenance. Also in the development of new walking tracks and in inspection checklists, walks classification etc.
