Search and Rescue

Representatives of the Wilderness Rescue Group of the Confederation of Bushwalking Clubs spoke to the Club at a meeting in 1991 and outlined the work of the Group. The Club undertook to assemble a team of experienced walkers which could be called upon for searches in the Shoalhaven and nearby areas. Shortly afterwards Dawn and Russ Evans attended a Search and Rescue Training camp at Cataract Scout Park near Campbelltown.

Russ Evans wrote in 1993 - "The Club has always participated in 'Search and Rescue' for people lost in the bush. The local police welcome the assistance of experienced members in advisory and active roles in this important community service. Involvement by the Club would be supplementary to the work of the Bushwalkers Federation's own Rescue Unit which has earned an excellent reputation over the years."

Eight years later, in 2001, the Club President Chris Cuthbert also wrote about the Shoalhaven Bushwalkers Search and Rescue situation. "There has been much discussion regarding the capabilities of the Club to participate in rescue operations. We now have a Search and Rescue Call Out List of fifteen people and the Club very successfully participated in the Budawangs search and rescue operation in May (2000)."
